Vancouver Island:The Hidden Treasure

Ever though about a change of scenery or even a change of lifestyle? There is always a time when people get tired of the same, repetitive way of life, and when people get the feeling they always want to move or vacate to another place. Sometimes there is no need to travel a long distance in order to literally 'get away'. Traveling can be expensive, tiring and even difficult to arrange, again, you don't have to necessarily travel thousands of miles to escape to your desired destination. British Columbia is sincerely a beautiful place and it is also known for the selection of islands located at the western region of British Columbia. Vancouver Island is the largest of all islands surrounding BC. For an island getaway vacation BC has a breathtaking world of dazzling natural beauty that will take a person into an exhilarating adventure in the great outdoors.

Towards the end of the last century there was a transformation in the lifestyle of an individual, especially the young culture, ages ranging from 11 to 25. Modern existence has brought cultures many ways of interacting with people in daily events and activities. Nowadays, you wouldn't really see a fifteen year old going fishing with his/her friends, it would be more common seeing him/her going to the mall or to a friend's house to play video games. I am not saying that modern culture is influencing bad habits, but I am stating that it has revolutionized into a technological based society. Adolescents are not getting as much outdoors leisure interest as they used to, and this can be troublesome as years pass by. Of course, not every single person undertakes that behavior but the majority do engage themselves in the electronic approach in consuming time. Past times such as playing video games, computer games, logging on the internet and going to the movies have become over rated, again, this is not a negative matter just unnatural to some extent. The bright side of residing in British Columbia is the great amount of activities offered, and the way that an ordinary life can be changed into an exciting journey, and this is can sometimes be taken for granted.

Vancouver Island is filled with events and activities that people of any age can participate in, many of these activities involve the act of going outdoors. Around the island there are attractions some people don't even know exist; therefore, it's important to know that a dull lifestyle can be saved. One of the many attractions in the island is whale and wildlife viewing located in the northern waters and the west coast of Vancouver Island. A wonderful place of spending time with your friends and family as well as interacting with culture and nature, and getting away from the distracting scene of commercial existence. Apart from the activities mentioned, there are also events like camping, fishing, cycling, rafting, golfing, sight seeing, kayaking and many more. All these activities can be done with anyone you desire and there are no exceptions or boundaries that prevent you from taking part. Although some activities requires spending a bit of money I believe that it is always pleasant to spend money doing something positive, adventurous and practical. Some people find it's better to spend money on an exciting activity rather than a pair of shoes or a jacket, and I believe that the memory of an adventure lasts forever but a pair of shoes doesn't.

There are numerous ways to spend valuable time outdoors. To be more specific, let me take in account some examples that anyone who willing to put some time and effort can accomplish. Camping is the most economical and trouble-free way to enjoy the open no matter what means of transportation are taken. With the enormous amounts of campsites available people should appreciate the opportunity to camp in a healthy environment. The problem that people face is that not many acknowledge the fact that there are campsites accessible; that's why living in the island enables people to enjoy the wilderness. Unlike people who live in major cities where only parks are available for the public's pleasure of camping or lodging. The island's campsite provides many uses and there are no restrictions sited. It accommodates anyone who takes pleasure in the outdoor experience, especially enthusiastic hikers or people who seek for an adventure. Since camping is suitable for all ages, I think that the youth culture can use camping as an extensive way of connecting with one another. In fact, it is somewhat a healthier manner of communication since there are no interruptions. Whereas going to the mall has many distractions; thus it is harder for people to socialize and connect. This is why popular culture is beginning to be seen as an unauthentic. That's what recent research shows when examining a group of people with ages ranging from 11 to 23. According to the research I have carried out 20% enjoy staying at home with a company of people, 8% participates in outdoor activities, 47% say that they don't have any preference and that they just follow the crowd. Finally, 25% of the people interviewed regularly attends the nightlife scene and go to commercial locations, like shopping centers or café shops. These statistics are not accurate since they are taken from random people in Nanaimo, BC not the entire population of British Columbia; however, it does provide a clear outlook on the means of popular culture. As mentioned, forty seven per cent of the populace interviewed stated that there is no preference in what activity is engaged, and that he/she will follow his/her peers. This conclusion illustrates that there's a loss in authentic culture, and to some extent the act of individualism with the purpose of modern technology being there to reduce the natural existence. The value of life for the young culture has been altered into a technologically advanced nation where people use machinery to communicate, socialize and inhabit a leisure pursuit. Consequently, this is why many adolescents are becoming more discouraged in recruiting in outdoor activities.

Whether it's horseback riding, sailing or rock climbing, adolescents don't usually pursue these activities as a common pastime. The island may be filled with plenty of exciting and educational attractions, yet not many will be accomplished by the generation today. Outdoor adventurers and nature lovers should cherish Vancouver Island for the immeasurable amount of outstanding wilderness that is offered and the unlimited choice of getaways that captures the fascinating culture people deserve. After all, nature is what brought us here, not modern technology.

Highest rating: Duncan holds top position for fly-fishing, hiking and swimming. Victoria holds top position for the art and culture scene, famous gardens, cycling trails and scenic driving. Nanaimo holds top position for golfing, diving and weekend escapes. Port Alberni holds top position for beaches, whale watching, kayaking, surfing and the famous Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Campbell River holds top position for marine wildlife viewing, snorkeling with salmons, bear viewing, camping and white water rafting.
